Use a 5'x3' world map and hand-crafted paper coins to create your own Help Fight Hunger Wall. As the children return the coins with a donation, have them put their name on the coin and then place it on the wall with the other coins. The visual effect of the giant map with the coins placed around it will leave an impact on everyone who sees it. The donations can be given to the Global Child Nutrition Foundation or a local organization of your choice.
Have your students take their empty milk cartons or plastic containers to art class (or home) to decorate and turn into small coin banks. Another option is to use simple labels placed onto the cartons or containers. After the students take them home and collect money in the containers, have them return the containers to the cafeteria to see just how much Milk Money they have collected.
Have each class decorate their own bottle that is kept in their home room. During the contest period, the classes will race to see who can fill their bottle the fastest. Throw a party for the winning home room, which is the room that collects the most money.
Have students or staff collect recyclables, such as aluminum cans or bottles that can be returned for the deposit or sold for recycling. Have students or staff place the recyclables in a visible area to encourage participation.
